Update: Important Changes to Session

Some menus in Session will change in an update over the next few days

We are currently preparing to release an update to Session which will change the menus in the app. The steps required for some actions, such as messaging a new contact, will change. Some instructional materials may become outdated, and we will be working to get them up-to-date. 

Some of the key changes include:

• Open Groups will now be referred to as Communities

• Closed Groups will now be referred to as Groups

• The menus used to join a Community will change

• The menus used to send a New Message will change

These changes are cosmetic. The underlying functionality of Session is not changing. 

Why are you making these changes? 

The settings re-design is part of an ongoing effort to make Session more usable and accessible.

This re-design will make it easier for new users to start using the app, as well as making settings and menus more consistent across platforms. 

When are these changes happening? 

The update is currently in its final stages. It is due to be released within the next week.

Translating the update 

Because of the nature of this update, previously translated text strings may now be obsolete or replaced. Due to the large increase in Persian-language speakers on Session over the recent weeks, it is a priority to prepare a new Persian translation before the release. 

We will fully translate the new text strings into Persian before the update is released.

We also want to work with Persian-language speakers to proactively update guides and educational material where possible.
