Introducing the Session Network Page
June 04, 2025 / SessionAnnouncement, Release Roundup
The Session Network is an essential component of Session. Practically, it routes your messages and delivers them to your friends and family. Beyond this, the Session Network upholds Session’s commitment to decentralization, privacy, and community.
After many months of focused development, testing, and planning, Session made the transition to the new Session Network in May 2025. Some Session users may not have noticed the shift—because the tireless effort of Session contributors and community members ensured a smooth, disruption-free migration.
However, as a core part of the ethos and function of Session, it is important to celebrate the Session Network. To increase awareness and understanding of the network, Session contributors have developed a new Session Network page, now available in the Session app.
Understanding the Session Network page
The Session Network page gives you a heads-up view containing key information about the decentralized Session Network. The network page is a quick and reliable way to find up-to-date and authenticated information about Session, Session Token, and the overall ecosystem.
Here’s a quick breakdown of the statistics that you’ll find on the Session Network page (and what they mean).
Swarms
Swarms are groups of Session Nodes which store Session messages. Every Account ID belongs to a swarm, with every node in that swarm storing that ID’s messages. This ensures no messages are lost if a single node goes offline. Swarms usually contain 5-7 nodes.
This section shows the amount of nodes in your Account ID’s swarm as well as the number of nodes contributing to storing or handling the messages you send and receive on Session.
These nodes play an essential role in storing, delivering, and securing the messages you send and receive on Session.
Session Token
The qualities of SESH ensure that the Session Network remains high-performing, secure, and decentralized.
Session Token can be purchased (using decentralized exchanges) or earnt (through staking).
Note that the prices shown are for illustrative purposes only, and are not an offer or indication of the current value of Session Token.
Staking
Network participants (operators and stakers) earn rewards for their contribution to the network. These rewards come from the Staking Reward Pool, a secure and autonomous reward mechanism built on the decentralized Arbitrum One Network. A target rate of 14% of the staking reward pool is awarded to the network each year.
Rolling out now
The update containing the network page is currently rolling out on iOS and Android. If you are interested in Session Token or contributing to the Session Network, it is recommended to join the Session Token Community on Discord.
